The new electric Rational iCombi Pro, commissioned and tested in the Woodston Primary School kitchen.

This week at Woodston Primary School in Peterborough, we removed an ageing gas cooking line and replaced it with a brand-new all-electric setup. The new kit is a Rational iCombi Pro combi oven and a Falcon flat-top range. It is another school kitchen quietly making the move away from gas, and there are good reasons why.

Why schools are switching to electric

Across England, school and public-sector kitchens are steadily moving from gas to electric catering equipment. This is not a fad. It is being driven by three very practical pressures.

1 · Net-zero targets

Schools and local authorities are working towards government decarbonisation and net-zero goals. Taking gas out of the kitchen removes a direct on-site carbon source and supports those wider building targets.

2 · The cost of ageing gas systems

Older gas installations need interlocks, ventilation and safety systems that are increasingly expensive to upgrade, certify and maintain. Going electric often sidesteps a costly round of gas-safety works.

3 · Safety and efficiency

No open flame means a safer kitchen for staff and pupils. Modern electric kit also heats faster, holds temperature more precisely and wastes less energy, which matters when you are cooking hundreds of meals a day.

What we installed at Woodston Primary School

Out went the old gas line. In its place, two workhorse pieces of electric kit, supplied, delivered and fully commissioned:

Rational iCombi Pro: a self-cleaning electric combi oven that roasts, steams, bakes and holds, all from one intelligent touchscreen unit.
Falcon flat-top range: a robust electric solid-top cooker built for the volume and daily punishment of a school kitchen.

From kerbside delivery to a fully commissioned, flame-free kitchen.

The result

The Woodston Primary School kitchen team now has a cleaner, safer, flame-free line that is ready for whatever net-zero brings next, with none of the ongoing headache of an old gas system. It is a straightforward upgrade that pays off every single service.

If you run a school or public-sector kitchen and you are weighing up the move from gas to electric, we can help you plan it, supply the right kit and arrange installation with minimal disruption, usually inside a school holiday window.

Same kit, same results at Nene Valley Primary School.

In the same week, we carried out an identical installation at Nene Valley Primary School in Peterborough. The kitchen team there received the same Rational iCombi Pro and Falcon flat-top range, transforming their service into a modern, electric, net-zero-aligned operation.
